Colton Facciotti goes double tops in the NEC to take control of both major FWSX championship chases as the series hits the halfway point…

Rather than give you a Tuesday morning blow-by-blow account of all the racing action from Hall 5 of the spectacular NEC complex here are just a few highlights from the night’s action…

Colton Facciotti

As winner of both the SX1 and SX2 main events there’s no denying that 21-year-old two-time Canadian MX champ Colton Facciotti has the competition covered in Birmingham. Although he walks away from the NEC with the points lead in both classes Colt’s gonna have a tough time beating off Mike Brown – who rather terrifyingly is old enough to be Facciotti’s father – at the final two rounds in Liverpool and London.

Kyle Beaton

If there was a Sportsman of the Night award given out in Brum it’d be K-Beats – Kyle Beaton – who’d have it sat on his mantelpiece right now. Midway into the evening’s opening SX2 pro heat race with almost the full course under waved yellows after a marshal is tagged the 21-year-old Canadian is the only rider on the track considerate enough to slow down to pass the scene of the incident – good work fella!

whoops_web.jpg

Whoops!

The gnarliest section on the Dirt Wurx-built track is undoubtedly the killer whoop section that’s situated slap bang in the centre of the course. Pretty much running the full length of the straightaway the metre deep whoops command full commitment from the riders if they’re to get through them quickly. Dominic Foreman is just one of the many riders who bales out on this obstacle with the young Welshman choosing to go for a Larry Loopout-style dismount!

The Quad Squad!

Opinions are mixed when it comes to the quad race at the British supercross championship – some people love it and some hate it but no matter what it looks like it’s here to stay. After a no-score at round one former British sidecarcross champion – as a passenger – Mark Watson bounces back to easily win round two on the much faster and – for the quads at least – more technical circuit while Honda-mounted Giles Davis increases his points lead.

Zach Attack!

UTAG Yamaha’s Zach Osborne is looking for better results in Brum at round two after a disappointing opening night to his supercross season. Things aren’t to go Zach’s way though as a bone-crunching crash on the opening lap of the SX2 main ends the #338 rider’s night early.

supermini_web.jpg

Superminis

The open to all wheel sizes 85cc two-stroke/150cc four-stroke Supermini main event creates some of the most intense racing of the night and is somewhat reminiscent of an old-school Damon Bradshaw Vs Jeff Matiasevich AMA brawl as Bradley Ward and Liam Garland go at it bar-to-bar for the duration. It’s definitely Ward who’s the aggressor and seems to spend most of the race going out of his way to impede the progress of the others but his tactics seem to be doing the trick as he takes his second win of the series so far.

Am-Dram!

There’s no denying that the skill levels of the Clubman class racers have got better and better at the FWSX races over the years with this season’s bunch of battlers proving particularly adept at running speedy laps around indoor tracks. The Clubman classes actually cause quite a commotion in the NEC as the results of both finals are protested due to riders not following the fine example set by Kyle Beaton and passing under waved yellows – naughty naughty!

Mike Brown

As defending champ Mike Brown sure knows a thing or two about winning UK supercross races but the former AMA National champ can do no better than second place at round two as the effects of jet lag take a hold of the 37-year-old who only landed in the UK on the morning of the race after sitting in economy for the full duration of an eight hour flight from the States…
